The current Canadian and US guidelines for communityacquired pneumonia (CAP) recommend azithromycin alone in mild cases and azithromycin in combination with a ß-lactam for patients admitted to hospital with moderate to severe CAP. To demonstrate that azithromycin should not be considered an alternative for the treatment of CAP, a medication assessment— based on indication, effectiveness, and safety—will be completed.
