In this study the effects on the hydrophobization of the surface of malachite with some fluorosurfactants were investigated. Perfluorooctanoic acid, Ftergent-100 and Ftergent-150 were used as the fluorosurfactants . The hydrophobicity was characterized with the amounts of malachite picked up in the bubble-pick-up tests . Perfluorooctanoic acid showed better recovery of malachite than octanoic acid . Moreover, Ftergent-100 and Ftergent150 gave better maximum amounts of malachite picked up than sodium oleate . Additionally, FT-100 and FT-150 showed high surface activity in the air/water interface. These results were probably attributed to higher hydrophobicity of the fluorocarbongroups of fluorosurfactants . Especially, since Ftergent-100 and FT-150 have five CF3-groups which show very low surface free energy in each molecule, the considerable hydrophobization was usefully achieved.
