En este articulo se presenta un analisis de los terminos de parentesco con significado no literal --presentes en expresiones como “que va a llevar mamita” o “es media porfia mi tia”-- y se proponen hipotesis explicativas para sus usos en Chile. Estas hipotesis explicativas se resumen en un esquema compuesto por un eje graduado de ordenadas y abscisas, el cual da cuenta de las relaciones de subordinacion y distancia afectiva, y permite generar nuevas expresiones. El trabajo concluye con los aspectos mas destacados descritos en la investigacion, y algunas posibles proyecciones del mismo.
