1979年8月より1982年5月までの2年10ヵ月間に, DHPによって除去可能と判断された急性薬物中毒を39例経験した. 39症例をDHP適応基準にしたがってDHP群と保存群に分けてその予後を検討した. DHPの適応基準は, パラコート中毒例では尿パラコート定性反応が陽性の場合, その他の薬物中毒例では意識障害の遷延, vital signの悪化, またはそれらが予測される場合, および原因不明の意識障害例で薬物中毒が強く疑われる場合とした.DHP群は男性11例, 女性13例の計24例で, そのうちパラコート中毒3例を含む13例が救命された. 保存群は男性9例, 女性6例の計15例で, そのうち1例のみが死亡した. 入院時に保存群と判断された2症例が, のちにDHP群へ移行した. 臨床症状の観察と原因薬物の種類に重点をおいた我々のDHP適応基準は現時点では一応妥当なものと判断される.
