Pour qui s’interesse a la philosophie des mathematiques, Roger Apery (1916-1994) incarne le defenseur de la mathematique constructive et l’adversaire resolu du formalisme et du bourbakisme. On sait moins qu’il est aussi l’un des premiers universitaires francais a avoir fait la promotion de la theorie des categories, pourtant hautement structuraliste et souvent jugee comme tres formelle. L’objectif principal de notre etude est de preciser les conditions historiques et la teneur philosophique du double enthousiasme d’Apery, afin de verifier la coherence d’une pensee libre, originale et attachante.
