International audienceInside the great Constantina, a new part of the city called Ali Mendjeli receive a large number of families removed from sensitive or informal housings which roped off the historic center. Public authorities give to those families new and comfortable apartments. Consequently, they consider that social support is unnecessary while those forced relocations have been accompanied by tensions and protests when informal housings were brutally destroyed. Since the beginning of 2014, some parts of Ali Mendjeli are affected by violence which takes sometimes a shocking turn. Those violent periods concern groups of young men recently resettled in Ali Mendjeli with their families and coming from different informal areas which have been destroyed. Violence is caused by competition between football supporters or to take control of informal car park zones. In those cases, local public places look like issues for the balance of power between those different groups. They also appear like a scene for the battle. Elder population, supposed to embody a traditional power on younger, can’t ease the most troubled spirits, no more than official representatives. Consequently, violence is growing up into certain parts of Ali Mendjeli, which making it hard to maintain ordinary city life and business activity.Dans l’agglomération de Constantine, la nouvelle ville d’Ali Mendjeli reçoit un nombre important de ménages délogés des quartiers précaires qui ceinturaient le centre historique. Attribuant à ces ménages des logements modernes et confortables, les autorités ont estimé inutile d’organiser l’accompagnement social des populations déplacées alors que les délogements avaient provoqué des protestations. Depuis le début de l’année 2014, certaines des unités de voisinage d’Ali Mendjeli sont affectées par des violences, qui prennent parfois un tour dramatique. Ces dernières mettent aux prises des groupes de jeunes gens issus de différents quartiers démolis. Rivalités entre supporters du club de football local, concurrences économiques pour le contrôle des zones de parkings informels constituent les causes principales de ces rivalités. Dans les deux cas, les espaces publics apparaissent comme un enjeu dans le rapport de force en même temps qu’ils constituent une scène pour les affrontements. Les populations plus âgées, censées incarner une autorité sur les plus jeunes, ne parviennent pas à apaiser les esprits, pas plus que les autorités officielles. De ce fait, la violence s’installe, particulièrement dans certains secteurs de la ville nouvelle qui ont accueilli de forts contingents d’habitants provenant des quartiers les plus précaires. Ces tensions rendent difficile la vie de l’ensemble des populations de la ville nouvelle d’Ali Mendjeli, principalement les commerçants
