Reduction of substituted benzophenones, benzhydrols, diaryl alkenes, and benzylideneacetophenones with D3PO2 in DOAc in the presence of a small amount of iodine results in reduction to the corresponding alkanes efficiently, relatively inexpensively, and with regioselective incorporation of deuterium.
