This study aims to determine the effect of the Contextual Teaching and Learning approach on mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Kendari. This research is a quasi-experimental with posttest only control design. The population is all class VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Kendari totaling 362 students. Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique, the control class and experimental class were randomly selected. The experimental class (class VIII-G) amounted to 36 students taught with the Contextual Teaching and Learning approach and the control class (class VIII-H) totaling 33 students taught by conventional learning. The research instrument consisted of observation sheets and test results. Data were collected by observation, documentation, and test techniques then analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The result, the average student learning outcomes of the experimental class (74.92) is higher than the control class (70.12). In conclusion, the Contextual Teaching and Learning approach has a significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII SMP Negeri 5 Kendari.
