This study aimed to identify the availability of access to Genetic Counseling (AG) service for the families of patients with congenital diseases in Itabaiana-SE. The sample was characterized by 18 families, 12 of whom attend the Specialized Educational Service (AEE), Group X, and 6 who do not attend, Group Y, individually interviewed based on a semi-structured script. Group X was composed of families mainly of socioeconomic class D and individuals who interrupted their studies in elementary school, while Group Y was formed by families of class B who attended full tertiary education. Only 7 families had had contact with information about AG, but only 4 had attended this service. The results point out the need for greater investment in the dissemination of AG services already carried out and their expansion.
