Interchangeability occurs when a drug prescribed by a health professional is replaced by another. Legally, it has been planned since 1999 for generic drugs, however, similar drugs were not considered interchangeable drugs due to the lack of testing requirements. The objective of this work is to describe Brazilian Journal of Development Braz. J. of Develop., Curitiba, v. 6, n.12, p.95754-95762 dec. 2020. ISSN 2525-8761 95755 how this interchangeability between the similar drug and the reference occurs and the importance of the pharmacist in this process. A bibliographic review was carried out on the websites of Scielo, ANVISA and the Federal Pharmacy Council, using the descriptors: Drug Interchangeability; Similar Drugs; Pharmaceutical care. Finally, the work enabled the understanding of the interchangeability process between similar drugs and reference, what are the necessary requirements for approval of the procedure and the role of the pharmacist in carrying out the exchange and guidance.
