Diethylenetriamine-and pentanediamine-intercalated a-zirconium phosphates (ƒ¿-ZrP) were synthesized and their adsorption properties for fragrant gases with aldehyde group such as citral, benzaldehyde and trans-2-hexenal were examined. Diethylenetriamine-intercalated ƒ¿-ZrP adsorbed these gases more than pentanediamine-intercalated ƒ¿-ZrP. These gases were adsorbed through the interaction of aldehyde group with amino or imino group of intercalated amines. The arrangement of these amines in the interlayer region changed after the adsorption of aldehyde gases.
