On the basis of the two key-words ,forest legislation' and silviculture', our profession is being critically analysed. This is being done retrospectively back to the last annual meeting of the Swiss Forestry Society in our canton in 1972. Comparisons of that time with today show surprising facts, such as two decisions taken which had an unsuspected delayed-action effect. This article also makes allusions to the Jhurgau reports' in this edition and closes with a preview of future forest policy.
