司会先生はアメリカに行って超高真空を学んで来られた のですか. 恩地いえ,それよりずっと前からですよ.僕の先生は佐 々木先生と言われましてね.マックスプランクのフリッツ ハーバー研究所ね,あそこはまあ,触媒物理化学から始まっ たんですから,あそこで高真空技術を学んで帰ってこられ て,化学教室で極低圧の物理化学を始められたのですが,表 面の研究では超高真空にしないと本当の事がわからない. 1950年に BA ゲージが登場し,53年頃にはアルパートらが 超高真空装置を作りましたね.私は高真空中で劈開をやって いましたから超高真空中で劈開した表面に光や電子を当てて 精密な実験をしたいと言って,許可して貰ったのです.54 年にはヒックマンポンプと金属バルブを使った小さなガラス の超高真空装置を作りましてね,55年には自作したオメガ トロンを発表しています.61年にはワシントンでの国際学 会(IVC)に道嶋さんと一緒に出席しました.
