Identificou-se as estrategias funcionais de Vanilla chamissonis (Orchidaceae) associadas a heterogeneidade ambiental de duas formacoes de Restinga da planicie costeira de Sao Francisco do Sul/SC. Dos 20 individuos amostrais selecionados por formacao, foram coletadas folhas para a biometria de atributos morfoanatomicos e ecofisiologicos. Parâmetros ambientais como luz, nutricao edafica e disponibilidade hidrica foram medidos. Medias foram comparadas por meio do Teste t de Student. PCA foi empregada para determinar a maior variância entre os atributos funcionais e entre as variaveis ambientais. Relacoes entre dados biologicos e ambientais foram testadas por regressao linear. A luz destacou-se como variavel ambiental de maior influencia sobre V. chamissonis , afetando de forma direta e proporcional a area foliar, grau de suculencia e os teores de clorofila. Como resposta a grande variacao luminica e de fertilidade do solo, as plantas apresentaram ajustes estruturais e ecofisiologicos maximizando o uso de recursos e investindo em crescimento e desenvolvimento. A B S T R A C T This study aimed to identify the functional strategies of Vanilla chamissonis (Orchidaceae) associated to environmental heterogeneity of two Restinga formations of the coastal plain of Sao Francisco do Sul, SC. 20 sampled individuals selected in each formation, completely expanded leaves were collected for biometry of morphological and ecophysiological attributes. Environmental parameters such as light, edaphic nutrition and water availability were measured. The averages of the attributes were compared using Student's t-test. PCA was employed to determine the greatest variance between functional attributes and between environmental variables. Relations between biological and environmental data were tested by linear regression. The light was highlighted as an environmental variable of greater influence on V. chamissonis , affecting directly and proportionally the leaf area, degree of succulence and chlorophyll content. In response to the great light variation and soil fertility, the plants presented different structural and ecophysiological traits in order to maximize the use of resources, investing in growth and development.
