This article aimed at investigating what kind of errors Chinese 8 graders have in congruent triangles reasoning and proof. The participants were 102 students in two eighth-grade classes in junior high school in China. The results showed that they were confused with the connotation and form of five congruent triangle theorems. Students had standard graph set. They had difficulty in graphic analysis. They had difficulty in transformation among representations, math language, natural language and figures. Students were unable to give correct proof process. In addition, this article developed a rubric for evaluating eight graders’ congruent reasoning and proof.
