In a previous study by Omura and Osogoe (1951), it has been shown that in acute saponin poisoning in rabbits, injury to sinusoidal walls opens the bone marrow parenchyma to the blood current and the marrow cells are depleted to a large extent. Since the mode of reaction of the reticuloendothelial (RE) cells lining the sinusoidal walls in the bone marrow and liver to saponin is still unknown, the present study was conducted in an attempt to study the behavior of these cells in saponin poisoned rabbits.
