最近の光学製品,特にデジタルカメラや携帯電話・スマ ートフォンのカメラ等の撮像製品において,そのセンサー の高感度化が進んでいる.銀塩カメラのときにはフィルム の感度は ISO1600 程度が最大であったが,デジタルカメ ラに使われる CMOS や CCD センサーではその感度が ISO換算で 12800 などになるものもある.このような高感 度センサーのため,光学薄膜にわずかな光散乱(白濁)が あっても,フレアーとして画像に現れることになり,画像 のコントラストの低下につながる(図 1).主に上述の光 散乱は膜の構造に起因する.この膜の構造に影響を与える 要因としては,成膜条件でなく膜の表面粗さも関係する. これとは別に,外観品質としての白濁(シミ,クモリな ど)がある.例えば洗浄不良に起因するノジュールの発生 に伴うシミの発生である(図 2).また,レーザー関連の 光学部品においても光散乱は大きな問題となる.本稿で は,主に基板の表面粗さが光学薄膜に与える影響を中心に 述べる.
