The connecting process between the root surface and the periodontal membrane during initial root formation was investigated in the medial root of the upper first molar of 12-day-old rats by light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Beneath the Hertwig epithelial sheath, fine collagen fibrils appeared to rise from the collagen fibril network of the root dentin to the root surface. The collagen fibril network was more dense in the surface layer where it broke through the sheath than where it was covered by the sheath. Bundles of collagen fibrils from the dental sac spread at the root surface like a tree root to become entangled with the collagen fibril network in the surface layer, from which the inner enamel epithelial cells were separated. In the region without the sheath, the tangled ends of the collagen fibrils were embedded in a granular substance on the root surface. The connection of collagen fibers between the root and the periodontal membrane appears to result from the entanglement of collagen fibrils of the dental sac with a collagen fibril network in the surface layer of the root dentin, which is embedded in a granular substance during the early stage of root formation. 抄 録:歯 根 と歯根 膜 の コラーゲ ン線維(collagen fibers,以 下,CF)の 連 結過程 を調 べ るた め,12日 齢 ラ ッ ト の上 顎第 一 臼歯 近心 根 を上皮鞘 被覆 部,上 皮鞘 分 断部 お よび上 皮 鞘消失 部 に分 け,光 顕,透 過 ・走査電 顕 で観察 した。 上 皮鞘 被覆部 で は,象 牙質 内部 の コラー ゲ ン原線 維(collagenfibrils,以 下,CF1)網 か ら細 いCF1が 歯 根表面 に垂 直 に伸 びてい た。上皮 鞘分 断部 では,象 牙質表 層 のCF1は 上皮 鞘被覆 部 よ り密 で細 か い網 目構 造 を呈 し,し か も内 エナ メル上皮細 胞 が象 牙質 か ら離 れ た ところで は歯小 嚢 のCF1束 の末 端 が木 の根状 に広 が ってCF1網 と 絡 み合 って いた。 そ して上 皮鞘 消失 部 で は,こ の絡 み合 った部 分 は歯 根表面 に分 泌 された顕 粒物 質 に よって包 埋 〒890鹿 児 島県鹿 児島 市桜 ヶ丘8-35-1 中山二博:歯 根と歯根膜の連結過程 217 され てい た。 以上 よ り,歯 根 と歯根膜 のCFの 連 結 は,象 牙質表 層 のCF1網 に歯小 嚢のCF1の 末端 が絡 み合 い,そ こを顆 粒 物質 が包埋 す る ことに よ り起 こる ことが確か め られた。
