SixkindsofMg-2.5at%Zn-0.5at%RE(RE:rareearthelement,Y,Gd,Tb,Dy,HoandEr)alloyswithgrainsizeof1 2mmandcontaininga quasicrystalline icosahedral phase were prepared by casting and extrusion. These alloys had high strength and high fracture toughnessbalances, due to the synergetic eect of grain renement and the dispersion of quasicrystalline phase particles.
