RESUMO O presente estudo apresenta uma proposta de reconstrucao do estagio anterior ao momento a partir do qual o morfema que marca o modo gerundio em Tenetehara - Tembe e Guajajara - se desenvolveu. Serao comparados dados atuais da lingua com outros mais antigos, que registram estagios anteriores e permitem tracar a origem deste morfema. O estudo se fundamenta no metodo de reconstrucao interna e na tecnica de comparacao documental de estagios distintos de uma mesma lingua. Com este estudo pretendemos contribuir para o conhecimento de mudancas estruturais ocorridas em uma das linguas da familia Tupi-Guarani. PALAVRAS-CHAVE lingua Tenetehara. Modo gerundio. Mudanca linguistica. ABSTRACT This paper deals with the reconstruction of an earlier stage of the Tenetehara language - Tembe and Guajajara - in which a gerund mood morpheme was developed. Earlier stages of this language are compared to current data, providing information on the origin of this morpheme. This study is based on internal reconstruction and on the technique of documental comparison of different stages of the same language. This paper is a contribution to the understanding of structural changes undergone by a Tupi-Guarani language. KEYWORDS Tenetehara language. Gerund mood. Linguistic change.
