RESUMO:  a Serra dos Tapes, sul do RS, apresenta contingente de imigrantes europeus, em sua maioria pomeranos, advindos da antiga e extinta Pomerânia. Seus descendentes ainda falam o pomerano, lingua trazida ao Brasil com os imigrantes. Atualmente, o bilinguismo portugues e pomerano e uma caracteristica da regiao, especialmente na comunidade interiorana e rural de Santa Augusta. Neste artigo, analisamos, a luz da Linguistica Antropologica e da Sociolinguistica Variacionista, a situacao de contato linguistico entre o pomerano e o portugues. O bilinguismo e elemento crucial para a compreensao nao somente dos usos linguisticos e de fenomenos variacionistas do PB na localidade, como tambem para a compreensao das relacoes socioculturais e, especialmente, elemento chave para a constituicao da identidade dos sujeitos bilingues. Desse modo, o espectro “caracteristicas socioculturais, bilinguismo, identidade” influencia as representacoes socioculturais e os usos bilingues dos moradores de Santa Augusta, contribuindo, assim, para a manutencao do pomerano. PALAVRAS-CHAVE:  POMERANO; BILINGUISMO; IDENTIDADE ABSTRACT : the Mountain Range of Tapes, South of RS, presents a contingent of Europeans immigrants, most of them Pomeranians, coming from the extinct ancient Pomerania. Its descendants still speak Pomeranian, language brought to Brazil with the immigrants.Currently, Brazilian and Pomeranian's Bilingualism is a region characteristic, especially in the rural interior community of Santa Augusta. In this article, we analyze, through  Anthropological Linguistics and Variationist Sociolinguistics, the linguistic contact situation between Pomeranian and Portuguese. Bilingualism is the crucial element to the understanding of not only the linguistic use and variationism phenomena from Brazilian Portuguese in the local, as well as to the understanding of social cultural relations and, especially, the key element to the constitution of bilingual subjects' identities. Thus, the spectrum "social cultural characteristics, Bilingualism, identity" influences the social cultural representations and the bilingual uses of the habitants of Santa Augusta contributing, therefore, to the Pomeranian maintenance.
