This article aims to conduct further study of the narrative of human creation, in this case it is about the land which is the basis of human creation. The Qur'an uses four words that indicate the meaning  of  'land' in verses that speak of human creation, namely ardh, turab, shalshal and thin. But the main focus of this article is to see the meaning behind the word thin in the Qur'an using the Roland Barthes semiology approach. With Barthes's semiology we can find the first level meaning of the word thin and the meaning of the second level (myth/connotation). At the first level of meaning it is found that signifier I: thin, signified I: land mixed with water, and sign I: thin as material for human creation. Whereas the second level of meaning is found that signifier I: thin as material for human creation (sign I), signified II: thin makes humans and Satan physically and existence distinct. Also Satan feels more noble than humans so that thin is the reason why Satan does not want to prostrate to humans, and sign II: the perfection of God's power is able to create humans from material, according to Satan is inferior even dirty, but actually better than material creation of the devil. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk melakukan kajian lebih jauh tentang narasi penciptaan manusia, dalam hal ini adalah tentang tanah yang menjadi bahan dasar penciptaan manusia. Al-Qur’an menggunakan empat kata yang menunjukkan makna ‘tanah’ dalam ayat-ayat yang berbicara tentang penciptaan manusia, yaitu ardh, turab, shalshal dan thin. Namun, fokus utama artikel ini adalah melihat makna di balik kata thin dalam al-Qur’an menggunakan pendekatan semiologi Roland Barthes. Dengan semiologi Barthes ini dapat ditemukan makna tingkat pertama kata thin dan makna tingkat keduanya (mitos/konotasi). Pada makna tingkat pertama ditemukan bahwa Penanda I: thin, Petanda I: tanah yang bercampur dengan air, dan Tanda I: thin sebagai bahan penciptaan manusia. Sedangkan makna tingkat kedua ditemukan bahwa Penanda I: thin sebagai bahan penciptaan manusia (tanda I), Petanda II: thin menjadikan manusia dan Iblis berbeda fisik dan eksistensi. Juga Iblis merasa lebih mulia dari manusia sehingga thin menjadi alasan mengapa Iblis tidak mau bersujud kepada manusia, dan Tanda II: kesempurnaan kekuasaan Allah yang mampu menciptakan manusia dari bahan yang menurut Iblis sifatnya rendah bahkan kotor, namun justru lebih baik dari bahan penciptaan Iblis.
