Small-scale model experiments are carried out by changing the conditions of the model building height H, aperture ratio Op, bottom height hB from the model ground surface and incident tsunami to examine the basic characteristics of reduction of tsunami horizontal and vertical fluid forces on a solitary RC building with aperture. It is confirmed that 1) the quasi-steady horizontal force decreases linearly as the aperture ratio increases, 2) the vertical force may consist of the buoyancy, weight of the inflow water, uplift, downward lift at the bottom surface and upward lift at the top surface, and is upward for the building without aperture and downward for that with aperture and 3) the vertical force is less than half of the horizontal force in the case of non-submerged building without aperture.
