Background: obesity is a risk factor for gastro-esophageal disease (GERD) and hiatal hernia (HH) occurrence. A substantial number of obese patients have HH. Esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (EGD) and Barium X-ray oral study are used for preoperative gastrointestinal evaluation.
