ABSTRAK Jambu mete ( Anacardium occidentale L.) telah berkembang luas di 24 provinsi di Indonesia. Namun pengembangannya belum diikuti dengan meningkatnya produktivitas tanaman. Rata-rata produktivitas jambu mete nasional adalah 432 kg/ha, sedangkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produktivitas varietas unggul dapat mencapai lebih dari 1000 kg gelondong kering/ha. Produksi jambu mete Indonesia hanya memberikan kontribusi sebesar 2,86% dari produksi dunia yang berarti berpeluang untuk bersaing dengan negara lain, agar menjadi terbesar di dunia. Mengingat nilai ekonominya yang cukup tinggi, perlu adanya dorongan untuk meningkatkan produksi nasional dan bersaing dengan negara lain. Untuk itu, dalam mendukung pengembangan tanaman jambu mete di Indonesia diperlukan berbagai upaya, antara lain dengan meningkatkan produksi melalui perluasan wilayah pengembangan ke daerah-daerah yang sesuai persyaratan tumbuhnya dan meningkatkan produktivitas melalui dukungan  teknologi yang tepat dan  berbasis ekologi.  Lahan yang sesuai untuk jambu mete adalah ketinggian 1-500 m dpl, curah hujan 1300-2900 mm/tahun, bulan kering 4-5 bulan, drainase baik, pH 5,6-7,3, kedalaman air tanah >1,5 m. Teknologi yang tepat adalah teknologi spesifik lokasi, mulai dari kesesuaian lahan, varietas unggul, pemupukan hingga pola tanam. ABSTRACT Cashew ( Anacardium occidentale L.) has grown widely in 24 provinces in Indonesia, but its development has not been followed by increasing crop productivity. Everage national of cashew productivity is still low (432 kg/ha), but result of varieties research show that the productivity of varieties in more than > 1000 kg dried cashew nut/ha. Contribution of production cashew of Indonesia only 2,86 % in the world. Economy value of cashew is high. The oppotunity to compete with other contries is very possible, in order to become the biggest in the world. Considering its high economic value, there needs to be an encouragement to increase national production and compete with other countries. Therefore, in supporting the development of cashew in Indonesia, various efforts are needed, including increasing production through expantion of development areas, to areas that are in line with growing requirement and increasing productivity, through appropriate technology support and ecology-based.  Land suitable for cashew i.e. altitude 1-500 m above sea level, rain fall 1300-2900 mm/year, dry month 4-5 months, good drainage, pH 5,6-7,3, and ground water depth above 1,5 m. The right technology is location-specific technology, starting from land suitability, superior varieties, fertilization to cropping patterns.
