Bladder cancer (BC) is a common human urinary malignancy and is ranked as the ninth most common cancer worldwide. Each year, more than 4,000,000 cases of BC are diagnosed and over 160,000 die from the disease worldwide (1). Unfortunately, the morbidity and mortality rates are also increasing, and although the current treatments for BC have substantially improved, over 50% of patients develop local progression and relapse after surgery (2,3).
