Purpose: A purpose of this study was to analyze unit framework of three social studies textbooks published in America and to find meaningful suggestions necessary for the revision of elementary social studies textbooks. Method: Research method is was the analysis of the literature. The main criteria for analyzing textbooks was followed the criteria used in Lee(2004)’s study. Specifically, this study analyzed unit table, factors of the unit, description of the text, organization of the unit. Results: The results of this study were as following: First, American social studies’ textbooks provide various literature associated with the unit. Second, American social studies’ textbooks provide skills that are helpful for achieving the goal of the class. Third, American social studies’ textbooks provide various materials to help students have various background knowledge. Conclusion: It is necessary for us to study textbooks and to reflect good points on the revision of the textbooks.
