Purpose: This study attempts to draw the representative profiles of parents' parenting styles and children's temperaments and examine differences in the level of children's self-compassion according to types of resulting profiles. Method: To this end, 508 5th-6th graders in elementary schools were analyzed to provided following findings. Results: First, parents' emotional warmth parenting styles and children's reward dependence and persistence temperaments have significant positive correlations with the self-compassion, while fathers' rejective and mothers' overprotective parenting styles as well as novelty seeking and harm avoidance temperaments have significant negative correlations with it. Second, parents' emotional warmth, fathers' rejective and mothers' overprotective parenting styles as well as persistence, reward dependence, novelty seeking and harm avoidance temperaments have effects on the self-compassion. Third, parents' parenting attitudes include five profiles : normal, indifferent, rejective, affectionate and overprotective types and three groups of temperaments : insensible, sensation seeking and patient types were drawn. Conclusion: The findings are thought to have an implication, in that they revealed the relationship between the self-compassion and parents' parenting styles and children's temperament. They found parenting and temperamental styles that have positive or negative effects on the self-compassion.
