This article shows the geographic evolution of land use in the São Lamberto river basin, situated in the northern mesoregion of Minas Gerais State. Based on the behavior of NDVI (Normative Difference Vegetation Index), in different use classes of land, mapped with major changes and territorial advances in the basin, in a period of 31 years, from 1985 to 2016, using mainly techniques of Remote Sensing. The results were significant concerning land use mapping, inferring rate of loss of native vegetation in the basin in the mapped period. Regarding the NDVI, there was great variability among land uses sampled, standing out as an efficient instrument for such analyzes.
