Nitrogen promotes rapid plant growth and improves grain yield and quality through. higher tillering, leaf area development, grain formation, grain filling and protein synthesis (Pratap Reddy et al 2019) and plays a crucial role in enhancing the yield. Globally rice cultivation consumes approximately 9 -10 million t of fertilizer N in a year which accounts for about 10 per cent of the total N fertilizer production in the world (Nayak et al., 2018).
