Lumbar hernias are rather uncommon, and around 300 primary cases have been reported1. The most common site for the occurrence of lumbar hernias is in the superior lumbar triangle (Grynfeltt) and less commonly in the inferior lumbar triangle2. The inferior lumbar triangle (Petit) is bounded medially by the latissimus dorsi muscle, laterally by the external abdominal oblique muscle, and inferiorly by the iliac crest. The flor of the inferior lumbar triangle is formed by the internal abdominal oblique muscle. Petit described a strangulated hernia emerging from this triangle and then named by him3.
