The photolysis of molecular fluorine at 366 nm in the presence of bis(fluoroformyl)peroxide, (FCO) 2 O 2 , at temperatures of 283, 303 and 313 K has been investigated in a static system. The main products FC(O)OF and CF 2 O are formed with a small increase in the total number of moles, while traces of CF 3 OF can be detected. A linear dependence of the inverse of the quantum yield for (FCO) 2 O 2  consumption, Φ −1 , on the inverse of (FCO) 2 O 2  mean pressure results. Conversely, Φ does not depend on the presence of added products, on the intensity of the light, neither on the nature of the wall of the reaction cell, nor on total pressure. The following mechanism allows for the interpretation of the experimental evidences:
