A new molybdenum(V) monophosphate Li 3 (MoO) 2 (PO 4 ) 3  has been grown as single crystals. It crystallizes in the space group  P 2 1 / c  with  a  = 15.144(1) Å,  b  = 8.0558(7) Å,  c  = 17.855(2) Å,  β  = 104.18(1)°. Its structure, although structurally related to that of Li 2 Na(MoO) 2 (PO 4 ) 3 , differs fundamentally from the latter by the geometry of the “Mo 4 P 4 O 34 ” rings that form the basis of the structure: in those rings the [PO 4 ] tetrahedra exhibit both  trans  and  cis  positions with respect to the [MoO 6 ] octahedra by contrast to Li 2 Na(MoO) 2 (PO 4 ) 3  where all the tetrahedra adopt a  trans  position with respect to the [MoO 6 ] octahedra. Consequently the tunnels running along  b  exhibit a different shape and a smaller section compared to Li 2 Na(MoO) 2 (PO 4 ) 3 . With two kinds of coordination, tetrahedral and pyramidal, the lithium cations are distributed differently.

A lithium molybdenum(V) monophosphate, Li 3 (MoO) 2 (PO 4 ) 3 structurally related to Li 2 Na(MoO) 2 (PO 4 ) 3
