Source of material : T h e title compound was prepared (see ref. 1) by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddi t ion of fiiran (see ref. 2 and 3) with the corresponding hydroximoyl chloride which was derived (see ref. 4) f rom the corresponding L-xylose oxime (see ref. 5). T h e mixture of diastereomeric cycloadducts [(3aÄ,6aÄ) / (3a5,6a5) = 7 0 : 30] was separated by M P L C and both isomers were recrystallized f rom petroleum ether / ethyl acetate (see ref. 1 and 6). In the crystal the spatial a r rangement shows discrete stacks with alternating arrangements of molecules in which the isoxazoline moiety faces the proximal 1,3-dioxane ring above and below, and vice versa (head-to-tail piling).
