Synthesis of the PCB derivatives 4-azido-2,2′,4′,5,5′-pentachlorobiphenyl and 4,4′-diazido-2,2′,5,5′-tetrachlorobiphenyl is described. The compounds are easily photoactivated by UV-C irradiation. Thus these derivatives are valuable photolabels which have been used already in studies of intracellular distribution.
