Cyclopropanated binaphthoquinones are obtained by addition of diazomethane to dimeric naphthoquinones and thermal or acidic degradation. 8,8′-dimethoxy-3′-methyl-2,3-dihydro-2,3-methano-2,2′-binaphthyldiquinone (9b) forms diastereomers by axial chirality and has a rotation barrier of about 20 kcal/mol.
