In a ligand exchange reaction between BHal 3  (Hal = Cl, Br) and the tetraalkylsilanes Et 4 Si, (Me 3 Si) 2 CH 2  or Ph 2 CHSiMe 3  the alkylhaloboranes EtBBr 2  or MeBHal 2  and the alkylhalosilanes Et 3 SiBr, HalMe 2 Si-CH 2 -SiMe 3 , (HalMe 2 Si) 2 CH 2 , and Ph 2 CHSiMe 2 Br, respectively, are formed. Similarly, the methyloligosilanes (Me 3 Si) 2  (1) and (Me 3 Si) 2 SiMe 2  (2) react with BHal 3  (Hal = Cl, Br, I) via methyl-halogen-transfer to give HalMe 2 Si-SiMe 3  (Hal = Cl, Br, I), (HalMe 2 Si) 2  (Hal = Br, I), HalMe 2 Si - SiMe 2 -SiMe 3 , (Me 3 Si) 2 SiMeHal, HalMe 2 Si - SiMeHal -SiMe 3 , (HalMe 2 Si)SiMe 2  (Hal = Cl, Br) or (BrMe 2 Si) 2 SiMeBr besides MeBHal 2  (Hal = Cl, Br, I) and Me 2 BI, respectively.
