FeV 2 O 4  has been prepared under oxygen with pressures between 10 -16.4  and 10 -9.9  bar. X-ray and Mössbauer investigations show that FeV 2 O 4  is not stoichiometric but contains Fe(III), and that an additional phase of corund type has been formed. At 1000 °C and p O2 , = 10 -16.2  bar the spinel with the lowest Fe(III) content, Fe 2+ (Fe 0.03  3+ V 1.97  3+ )O 4 , has been prepared.
