Results of X-ray studies on single crystals of K 2 GdF 5  and on other K 2 LnF 5 -type compounds are reported. Single crystals of K 2 GdF 5  have been prepared from 2 :1-mixtures of the binary fluorides. These samples were investigated by X-ray methods. K 2 GdF 5  crystallizes orthorhombically with unit cell dimensions: a = 10.814(4), b = 6.623(1), c = 7.389(3) Å, space group No. 62, Pnam -D 16  2h  , Z = 4. In addition we have corrected earlier results about cell constants of the series of K 2 LnF 5 -type compounds.
