The title compound may be prepared by irradiation of (CO) 5 CrFe 2 (CO) 8 PPh, which itself is accessible from Fe 2 (CO) 9  and (CO) 5 CrPPhCl 2 . It forms a tetrahedral cluster in which a pentacarbonylchromium fragment acts as the apex of a tetrahedron the base of which ist formed by an Fe 2 P-triangle. X-ray analysis reveals that the chromium atom interacts strongly with all three atoms of the tetrahedral base, thus substantiating a coordination number of eight for Cr(O).
