Die Krackung von DDT bei etwa 300° liefert neben 1 Mol. HCl das entspr. 1.1-Diaryl-2.2-dichlor-äthen. Bei der analogen thermischen Behandlung von DDD bildet sich neben 2 Mol. HCl 4.4′-Dichlor-tolan. Diese Spaltprodukte sind nur schwach insektenwirksam.
