Among the recent so-called non-reactive measures the lost-letter technique has gained particular popularity. In this comprehensive summary the technique itself, the independent, dependent and intervening variables are presented and methodological weaknesses of published studies are discussed. By several studies of the authors it is shown, which bias factors may be effective when using the technique.
