Synergistic effect of TiO 2  photocatalytic ozonation (a combination of TiO 2  photocatalytic oxidation and ozonation) was investigated for the degradation of pesticide Carbaryl. The experiments were conducted under different ozone dosages (0.12-0.57 g/h), catalyst dosage (0.5-2 g/L), pH (3-9) and light source (254 and 365 nm) to arrive at optimized reaction conditions for carbaryl degradation by photocatalytic ozonation. Then, three experimental sets (TiO 2 /UV, UV/O 3  and TiO 2 /UV/O 3 ) were conducted under optimized reaction conditions to prove the synergistic effect of ozone on TiO 2  photocatalysis. By photocatalytic ozonation process, complete removal of parent carbaryl molecule and 77% mineralization was achieved. The kinetic study showed that degradation rate constant with TiO 2 /UV/O 3  was 2.3 times higher than O 3 /UV and 4.4 times higher than that of TiO 2 /UV. The laboratory study has also demonstrated that effective utilization of ozone in the combined process. Thus, photocatalytic ozonation process will overcome the disadvantage of the selectivity of ozonation and the lower efficiency of TiO 2  photocatalysis in the degradation of pesticides.
