Using Naguib Mahfouz’s novel Akhenaton, this article seeks to relate the concepts of justice, memory and biography, arguing that a biography —of a depose Pharaoh in this case— is built upon people’s particular and biased memory. The protagonist, as well as his polarized environment, is used by Mahfouz to present his ideas about religious intolerance.
