. Introduction High capacity cathode materials based on Li 2MnO3 recently attract much attention because it can improve the capacity of Lithium Ion Batteries. Since its high capacity can not be explained by redox reaction of metal ions, several mechanisms have been proposed.[1.2] Recently Ohzuku et al have proposed possible two mechanism to explain its high capacity.[3] One is redox of Mn ion, the other that of O ion. In this paper, we discuss which mechanism is suitable for Li 2MnO3 based cathode materials to evaluate the capacities of LiNi 1/2M1/2O2-Li 2MO3 (M=Ti, Mn) solid solution. Here, a ratio of LiNi 1/2M1/2O2 to Li2MO3 was fixed at 1/2, then chemical formula of the solid solution would be written as Li 5/3Ni1/6Mn5/6-xTixO8/3.
