Adult lygus bugs collected from alfalfa in the Shaffer, CA, area were used to develop dose-mortality information for insecticides used on cotton since alfalfa is the source of a majority of these bugs invading cotton crops in the area of study. An aliphatic organophosphate, Orthene, and the synthetic pyrethroids Pounce, its cis-rich and trans-rich forms, two mixtures (4 OC:60 t and 40 t:60C), Mavrik, and NRDC-149 were applied in acetone solution with standard topical application equipment to 4 replicates each of both male and female bugs. Bugs were anesthesized with CO2 and desired dilutions applied to the coxal area. Mortality was read at 24 hr and corrected by Abbot’s formula.
