Five commercial sunflower fields all within 2 miles of one another were divided into 3 treatments/field and randomized as to the location of insecticide treatments. Treatments were placed on field margins where banded sunflower moth (BSM) larval seed infestations have been demonstrated to be highest within a given field. We assumed this would create a bias against the effectiveness of the insecticides. Aerial application took place beginning at 8:30 P.M. on the 28 Jul for fields 175-S, 205, N-S, and 134-S. Field 062-N was treated at 9 P.M. on 29 Jul. Five gal total material was applied/acre. Yield samples were collected on 25 ft of row with normal plant stands (20,000 plants/acre) at 6 randomly selected locations the length of the field and at least 20 rows, or further, into each field. Yield was adjusted to a standard moisture and compared by field and by insecticide treatment.
