We explicitly demonstrate that, contrary to recent claims, the dynamics of ageneralized Chaplygin gas model with an equation of state $p=-C$ (where $C$ isa positive constant) is equivalent to that of a standard $\Lambda$CDM model tofirst order in the metric perturbations.
