The present study aims to investigate the effects of diabetes diagnosis and mastery on the frequency of light, moderate and vigorous physical activity, and to examine whether mastery moderates the relationships. Data from the National Survey of American Life (N = 766) were analyzed using ordered logistic regressions. Findings suggest that diagnosed diabetes is associated with lower frequency of light and moderate activity. Additionally, the interaction effects between mastery and diabetes diagnosis were found for the frequency of light activity. Overall, social workers could continue the efforts to enhance mastery in diabetes education among older African Americans.
