This article reports the mechanical properties and dry sliding wear behavior of conventionally sintered Si 3 N 4 –Mo–Si and Si 3 N 4 –Mo cermets, where 15 wt% of oxide additives have been added by varying the ratio of individual additives, namely, Y 2 O 3  and Al 2 O 3 . It has been observed that wear depth, wear rate, and weight loss have increased with the increase in applied normal load. The effects of Si and oxide additives on tribological as well as mechanical properties have been investigated. The minimum wear depth, wear rate, and weight loss of 8.15 ± 0.25 μm, 0.13 × 10 −3  mm 3 /m, and 0.001g have been found in Si 3 N 4 –Mo cermet with 10 wt% Y 2 O 3  and 5 wt% Al 2 O 3  as additive. The main wear mechanisms like abrasion, delamination, and formation of grooves are evident on the worn surface.
